Three new commercial appointments for Symbiosis to drive international growth

Three new commercial appointments for Symbiosis to drive international growth

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve further strengthened the Symbiosis commercial team with three new appointments.

Payal Roychoudhury and Joaquín Pérez Fornieles join the Business Development team supporting growth respectively in APAC and Southern Europe and Annie Shafran joins as Inside Sales Manager.

A contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), Symbiosis specialises in the aseptic manufacture and fill-finish of injectable medicines for clinical trials and commercial supply.

The announcements come at an exciting time for the Stirling based business as it targets international growth across the Southern Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East territories.

With continued growth in biologics and injectable therapies which can require specialised manufacturing capabilities, there is strong demand for agile CDMO partners like Symbiosis, which is responding quickly to the changing landscape by expanding its operational reach.

Joanne Anderson, Chief Commercial Officer at Symbiosis, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Payal, Joaquín and Annie to the Symbiosis team. Payal and Joaquín will help us build relationships in priority international markets, while Annie’s new role will strengthen the support we provide from the first client enquiry. Together, they will help more drug developers access the manufacturing capacity and expertise we have invested strongly in.”

Based in Glasgow, Payal will focus on the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East territories. She brings more than 15 years of experience across pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and advanced therapies, with a career spanning scientific, technical and commercial roles at organisations including AstraZeneca, Lonza and Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Payal said: “The opportunity to bring my business development experience and international relationships to support the strategic growth of Symbiosis was especially compelling. Understanding the science behind a drug development programme helps you ask better questions about client needs, which builds a strong foundation for a successful partnership.”

Joaquín is based in Málaga, Spain, with responsibility for Southern Europe and support for other European and selected markets. He has spent the last decade in the CDMO sector, most recently with Carbogen AMCIS, where he was Sales Manager for Commercial Products.

Joaquín added: “I was attracted by the opportunity to join a growing CDMO with a strong focus on aseptic product manufacturing and with a clear ambition to expand its presence in Europe. What particularly attracted me to Symbiosis was their specialist approach and the flexibility they can offer clients. I’m looking forward to developing new relationships and supporting clients as their programmes move through clinical development and towards commercial supply.”

Annie, based in Manchester, joins from LGC where she was a Key Account Manager working with international clients. As Inside Sales Manager she will manage initial enquiries and work with business development and technical colleagues to identify opportunities and understand clients’ requirements.

Annie said: “A strong client relationship starts with listening. I want to make sure those initial conversations help us understand the project parameters early and in so doing, build the foundations for delivering the product to the clients timelines.”

The appointments follow the recent arrival of Jay Chima as Vice President, Business Development, and Jos Vergeest as Senior Business Development Director. They build on Symbiosis’ £26 million expansion programme, which has increased its aseptic manufacturing capacity for clinical and commercial supply.
